Warner Nets 22 but Scots Fall at Coe on Saturday
MONMOUTH, Ill. (11/12/2022) — THe Monmouth College women's basketball team lost on the road Saturday with a 72-46 final at Coe College. The Scots (0-2) continue their season-opening road trip on Wednesday with a game at Eureka College.
Monmouth scored the first points of the game on Saturday. Tarae Warner (Burlington, Iowa) rebounded her own miss and was fouled on the put back. She made both free throws for a 2-0 lead before the Kohawks scored the next eight. Coe led 13-7 after one quarter with Warner and Zoie Wall (Bartonville, Illinois) doing the scoring for Monmouth.
Coe pushed the lead into double digits early in the second quarter. The hosts extended the lead to 32-14 at halftime as Warner led the Scots with five points at the break.
Monmouth cut into the lead early in the third quarter with baskets from Warner and Wall. But Coe continued to extend their lead, pulling away for a 53-28 lead after three quarters. Monmouth had their best quarter in the fourth with 18 points as the Kohawks finished off the 72-46 win.
Warner led the Scots with 22 points and also grabbed a team-leading seven rebounds. Wall had six points and Jadyn Mitchell (Flanagan, Illinois) finished with five. The Scots shot just 23 percent from the field and Coe won the rebounding battle 49-32. The Scots play two games this week, both on the road. They will be in Eureka on Wednesday before traveling to Illinois Tech on Saturday. The home opener is Monday, Nov. 21 against MSOE.
