With Dangerous Weather Approaching, Monmouth to Close at 2 p.m. Today

'In the interest of the safety of our community, offices will close at 2 p.m. today and all classes and labs after 2 p.m. today are canceled.'

MONMOUTH, Ill. (03/31/2023) — The following email was sent this morning by Monmouth College President R. Wyatt to the Monmouth College community.

Dear Fellow Scots,

As has been predicted during the week, dangerous storms are approaching our area. The first wave, arriving in mid-afternoon, will be followed by an even more dangerous squall line late afternoon and early evening. The later wave has the potential to produce up to 75 MPH wind, large hail, and tornadoes. In the interest of the safety of our community, offices will close at 2 p.m. today and all classes and labs after 2 p.m. today are canceled.

You should have your phones and other devices fully charged. Also, the Residence Hall staffs will be in the halls to provide assistance and guidance. Campus Safety and other essential staff will be on campus to deal with this weather event and any aftermath. KEEP AN EYE ON SCOTS ALERT FOR ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION DURING THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY AND INTO THE NIGHT.

The Greek Life Award event scheduled for this evening will be rescheduled. Look for information from Dean Ogorzalek. Also, student-athletes will receive information regarding practices and competitions from Athletic Director Roger Haynes.

So that our Aramark Staff can also be safe, the Caf will be open for lunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and will close for the rest of today - which means that the Caf will NOT be open for dinner. Aramark Staff is responding in a very helpful way. You will scan for lunch as normal. You should then scan again to get a to-go box for your evening meal. Even if you had not planned to eat lunch in the Caf today, you should be sure to go between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to get food for your evening meal.

The storms are predicted to move through quickly, but will be severe while they are in our area. Please take no chances with your safety.
