Women's Lacrosse Falls to Augustana Wednesady
Fighting Scots now 0-2
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - (03/18/2021) — The Monmouth College Fighting Scots women's lacrosse team were shutout 15-0 by the Augustana Vikings on Wednesday night at Thorson-Lucken Field in Rock Island. The Vikings outshot the Scots 32-8 and had three players score at least three goals as the Scots fell to 0-2 on the season.
Augustana took the lead just 40 seconds into the game as Kathryn Hettiger's shot beat goal keeper Olivia Matlock (Lee's Summit, Missouri). With 25:10 to play in the first half, Hettiger made it 2-0 for the Vikings.
The Vikings added on with 23:31 to play in the first half as Cassidy Petrie found the back of the net. Margaret Cecilio made it 4-0 and with 20:40 to go she added a free position goal for a 5-0 Vikings advantage. Cecilio picked up a hat trick and made it 7-0 with 13:33 to play in the first half.
Augustana led 9-0 when the Scots got a free-position shot with 8:07 to play in the half. Aspen Chadderdon (Marshalltown, Iowa) missed high and Hettiger picked up a hat-trick of her own with 7:01 to play.
The Vikings added three more goals before halftime for a 12-0 lead at the break. The hosts grabbed goals from Sydney Rector and Petrie in the first ten minutes of the second half. A goal by Sandra Pielechaty with 21:59 to play proved to be the final score of the game.
Monmouth Moments: Chadderdon led the Scots with four shots on goal and six ground balls…Mac Holmes (Clive, Iowa) had three shots on goal…Matlock made 10 saves…Monmouth freshman Tori Cook (Joliet, Illinois) went head-to-head against her older sister Elizabeth, a senior on the Vikings…The Scots had never been shutout in 52 games…They have three games of scoring one goal…The game started in pouring rain and 35-degree weather…Last year's matchup between the Scots and Vikings was scheduled for April Zorn on March 18 and was the first game cancelled by the COVID-19 pandemic…The Scots are 0-4 against Augustana all-time with a 0-3 record in Rock Island…The Fighting Scots will next be in action on March 27 at home against Augsburg University at Noon.
