Women's Soccer Drops MWC Opener on Friday
MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/23/2023) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team allowed goals in both halves and dropped the Midwest Conference opener at Lawrence 2-0 on Friday night. The Scots (2-4-2, 0-1) had four shots on goal for the game but were shutout for the first time in six games.
The Vikings took the lead with a goal in the 14th minute. The Scots ended the first half with more shots on goal than the Vikings but it was 1-0 after 45 minutes. Lawrence doubled the lead in the 75th minute and finished the game with nine shots on goal to Monmouth's four.
Scots goalkeeper Anna Caster (Greenfield, Indiana) made seven saves. Jae Mitchell (Rockford, Illinois) and Madison Walker (Vernon Hills, Illinois) both had two shots on goal for the Scots.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Avery Parks (Bloomington, Illinois), Elizabeth Schmidt (Waverly, Iowa), Danielle Beach (Geneseo, Illinois) and Caster played all 90 minutes while Walker played 88. Lawrence had eight corner kicks to just one for Monmouth. The Scots were not whistled for a foul on Friday. The Scots host Coe at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday before returning to MWC action at home against Beloit on Saturday, Sept. 30.
