Women's Soccer Shuts Out Knox in Home Finale
MONMOUTH, Ill. (10/18/2023) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team scored in both halves to knock off Knox College 3-0 on Wednesday. The Scots (4-7-3, 2-3-1) have two games left in conference play, both on the road as they won the home finale in a constant rain.
Monmouth got on the board 6:20 into the match on a shot from distance by Lynn Rech (Vacaville, California). Testing a new goalkeeper, Rech launched the ball from well outside the box and over the goalie's head for the lead. Less than 10 minutes later, senior Elizabeth Schmidt (Waverly, Iowa) scored her sixth goal of the season, beating the Knox keeper at the near post.
Leading 2-0, Monmouth kept putting shots on goal for the next 70 minutes. With 5:51 to play, freshman Danielle Beach (Geneseo, Illinois) scored her seventh goal of the season for a 3-0 Monmouth lead.
Monmouth played two goalies in the game. Anna Caster (Greenfield, Indiana) started and made one save in 79 minutes. Bronte de Zwart (Ridleyton, Australia) made two saves in the final 11 minutes.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Avery Parks (Bloomington, Illinois), Schmidt, Madison Walker (Vernon HIlls, Illinois), and Nicole Koppers (Tinley Park, Illinois) played all 90 minutes. Monmouth had 36 shots, 19 on goal in the gameKnox had three shots, all on goal. The Scots had 12 corner kicks to none for Knox. Walker had five shots on goal while both Beach and Jae Mitchell (Rockford, Illinois) had four. Monmouth had three shutouts on the season. The last regular season win for Monmouth over Knox came in 2015 but the Scots beat Knox in penalty kicks to win the 2019 MWC Championship. The Scots went 3-3-2 at home this season, 2-1-1 in MWC action. Monmouth plays at 9 a.m. Saturday at Ripon.
