Women's Tennis Finishes Fall Season at MWC Tournament

Ramsenthaler wins consolation final

MONMOUTH, Ill. (10/16/2023) — The Monmouth College women's team finished their fall season over the weekend with the Midwest Conference singles and doubles tournament in Madison, Wisconsin.

At No. 1 singles, freshman Ivana Stefanova (Streamwood, Illinois) reached the semifinals. She beat Michelle Maag from IC 6-0, 6-0 on Saturday before falling to eventual champion Ioanna Giannakou of Grinnell 6-3, 6-2 in the semis.

At No. 2 singles. Kathi Ramsenthaler (Linz, Austria) won the consolation championship. She fell to Anna Vanden Acker of Lawrence 7-6 (0), 6-0 on Saturday, then got a bye to the consolation final. In Sunday's final, Ramsenthaler beat Hadley Berendsen of Ripon, 8-3.

At No. 3 singles, Natalie Labicki (Antioch, Illinois) reached the semifinals. She beat Allison Pavlovec of Ripon 6-2, 6-3 in the first round before falling to eventual champion Lily Perrin of Grinnell 6-4, 6-2 in the semis.

At No. 4 singles, Kimber Calvert (Paris, Illinois) lost in the consolation final. She fell 6-0, 6-2 to Sara Lopez of Lake Forest on Saturday, then bounced back to beat Ripon's Yeva Pipan 8-0. On Sunday, Calvert fell in the consolation final 8-1 to Cornell's Isabella Wallin.

At No. 5 singles, Jennifer Shimmin (Monmouth, Illinois) lost in the consolation final. She fell 6-0, 6-1 to Kate Feist of Lake Forest on Saturday, and beat Ripon's Isabella DeMeuse 8-6. On Sunday, Shimmin fell in the consolation final 8-2 to Lizzy Angemi of Lawrence.

At No. 6 singles, Julia Mheidze (Springfield, Illinois) lost to Lake Forest's Rebecca Daskal 6-0, 6-0 on Saturday. In the consolation semifinals, Mheidze lost 8-1 to Ripon's Aubrey Malotky.

The Scots won two of their first round doubles matches on Saturday. At No. 1 doubles, Stefanova and Ramsenthaler teamed up to beat a duo from Illinois College 8-2. At No. 2 doubles, Labicki and Shimmin won 8-3 over a team from Lawrence. Calvert and Mheidze lost 8-0 at No. 3 doubles to the team from Lake Forest and then lost 8-7 (6) in the consolation semis to Ripon.

In Sunday's semifinals, Stefanova and Ramsenthaler lost 8-5 to Lake Forest while Labicki and Shmmin lost 8-3 to Lake Forest.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Stefanova won 11 singles matches on the season, tied for sixth most in a single-season in school history. Ramsenthaler has 10 singles wins, tied for 10th in the single-season list. Stefanova won 12 doubles matches tied for seventh in a single season and her 23 total wins are also tied for seventh... The MWC post-season team will be released on Wednesday.
