Womens Tennis Drops a Pair of Matches in Iowa

MWC Championships Next Weekend

MONMOUTH, Ill. (10/08/2022) — The Monmouth College women's tennis team lost a pair of Midwest Conference matches in Iowa on Saturday to finish the regular season. Monmouth lost to defending champion Grinnell College 9-0 in the morning and fell to Cornell College 7-2 in the afternoon.


Against Cornell, Natalie Labicki (Antioch, Illinois) and Emily Laughlin (Milan, Illinois) lost 8-0 at No. 1 doubles, as did Isabel Hammond (Germantown Hills, Illinois) and Emily Henson (Geneseo, Illinois) at No.2. Jennifer Shimmin (Monmouth, Illinois) and Julia Mheidze (Springfield, Illinois) lost 8-1 at No. 3.


In singles, four of the matches ended 6-0, 6-0. Hammond lost 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Mheidze lost 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.


Against Cornell the Scots lost the three doubles matches 8-6, 8-7 (7-5) and 8-0. Labicki got a win at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-1 to get Monmouth on the board. Laughlin won at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-0. The other four singles matches went to the Rams in straight sets.


The Scots will participate in the MWC Doubles and Singles Championships next weekend in Madison, Wisconsin. They finished the regular season 1-9, 0-6 in MWC play.
