by Nathan Baliva

MONMOUTH< Ill. (05/15/2025) — Monmouth College head baseball coach Alan Betourne was named Midwest Conference Coach of the Year for the third time in his career on Thursday. In addition the Fighting Scots repeated as Sportsmanship Team of the Year.

Betourne, who was also Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2019, led the Scots back to the MWC Tournament for the first time in six years. Monmouth defied expectations all season as they were picked to finish seventh in the conference. Instead, the Scots were tied for first going into the final weekend, finished third in the regular season and made it to the MWC Championship Game. In the regular season the Scots were 2-1 against Lawrence, Beloit and Grinnell, the other three teams in the MWC Tournament.

The 2025 offense posted the second-most hits, runs, RBI and total bases in a single-season in Monmouth history. They also set a team record with 194 walks and hit the most home runs since the NCAA team in 2018.

Monmouth's non-conference opponents posted a .529 winning percentage this season. Seven of Monmouth's 12 non-conference opponents made their conference tournaments while two, Mount Union and Penn State-Behrend, qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

Betourne joins men's basketball coach Todd Skrivseth, men's track and field coach Brian Woodard, volleyball coach Derrick Broekemier and women's swimming coach Jake Dacus as Monmouth coaches to win MWC Coach of the Year awards in 2024-25.
