Community Day on Nov. 8 offers plenty of perks for local fans to cheer on the Fighting Scots

by Barry McNamara

Monmouth, Ill. (10/28/2025) — Monmouth College and the Maple City are teaming up for a full day of football, food and festivities on Nov. 8 when the college hosts Community Day in conjunction with a Fighting Scots home football game.

Local fans will be able to enjoy exciting pre-game traditions, a special halftime recognition and post-game fun. The contest between high-powered Monmouth - which is averaging nearly 50 points per game - and the visiting Ripon College Red Hawks will begin at 1 p.m. at April Zorn Memorial Stadium.

Some of the events will be tied to Veterans Day, which will be observed nationwide on Nov. 11. A local veteran will help kick off the game with a special tribute during the coin toss, and more hometown heroes will be honored at halftime. As the Fighting Scots Marching Band performs patriotic tunes, all veterans in attendance will be asked to stand and be recognized.

Community Day is not only a time to celebrate the Fighting Scots, but also the schools and teams in the area. Fans are encouraged to wear their school colors or team gear - anything from football or volleyball swag, to cheer or baton uniforms.

All fans will be invited to help welcome coach Chad Braun's squad onto the field by forming a Scots spirit tunnel in the area between Hewes Library and Zorn Stadium.

Other perks of the day will include:

Following Monmouth College on Facebook or Instagram to receive a free pork chop sandwich (while supplies last);
Meeting current Fighting Scots student-athletes behind the press box during the first half and tossing the football together - fun for all ages;
Being "picture perfect in plaid" at a photo booth behind the press box during the second half, where fans can get a photo snapped in one of college's famous tartans;
Autograph, please! After the game, members of the football team will sign their names for fans in the area in front of Hewes Library.

"Show up and have fun!" said Monmouth Director of Alumni Engagement Jen Armstrong, one of the organizers of Community Day. "No registration or fees are required - just bring your enthusiasm."

Fans can also share their spirit by posting photos from Community Day and tagging @monmouthcollege.
