Monmouth College Makes Adjustments to Fall Events

Matriculation, Family Weekend and Homecoming affected by COVID-19 pandemic.

by Duane Bonifer

MONMOUTH, Ill. (07/16/2020) — Monmouth College has made adjustments to several 2020 fall semester events because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Matriculation -- the ceremony that marks students' formal entrance into the Monmouth community -- will be celebrated during students' first "Introduction to Liberal Arts" class as a live-streamed event. The event will include an address from President Clarence R. Wyatt to the new class, and new students will pledge their commitment to the College by signing the "College Pledge," which will be displayed in Hewes Library.
  • Family Weekend will not be held on campus this fall. In place of the traditional Family Weekend, the Association for Student Activity Programming will develop virtual events for students and their family members. Those plans will be announced early in the fall semester. The 2020 commencement ceremony, scheduled to take place during this year's Family Weekend, has been canceled. The Class of 2020 will be celebrated during Homecoming 2021.
  • Some Homecoming 2020 events for alumni will move to a virtual setting on Oct. 9-10. The Association for Student Activity Programming will modify its Homecoming Week activities for students. Remaining Homecoming 2020 events will be postponed until Homecoming 2021. More details will be announced in the fall.

Monmouth's 2020 fall semester is scheduled to begin Aug. 18. Fall classes will end Nov. 24. Finals will be administered remotely after Thanksgiving.
