Scots Name Rhys Lewis as New Women's Soccer Head Coach
MONMOUTH, Ill. (05/06/2026) — The Monmouth College athletics department announced the promotion of Rhys Lewis to head women's soccer coach. Lewis has worked as an assistant coach to both the Fighting Scots men's and women's programs the last two seasons.
"We are excited to have Rhys lead our women's soccer program into the future," said Director of Athletics Roger Haynes. "The women had a very positive experience this spring with Rhys leading their off season training. He is an intelligent and motivated young coach that will help the women build a positive culture for our program."
""I am excited to become the next head women's soccer coach at Monmouth and ready to showcase what I can contribute to this program," said Lewis. "I want to thank Coach Haynes for believing in me and giving me the opportunity."
Lewis played as a defender in college and his defensive plans helped the women's team to five clean sheets in 2025, seventh most in school history, and their first winning record since 2019. The men's team also posted three clean sheets in each of the two seasons Lewis worked as an assistant.
Lewis joined Monmouth from West Liberty University where he was a graduate assistant for the women's soccer team. Lewis played four years at West Liberty, a D-II program in West Virginia. He was named to the Mountain East Conference All-Freshman team in 2019 as a defender, starting all 19 games. In 2023 he was named MEC Honorable Mention as a defender.
Over five seasons with the Hilltoppers, Lewis played in 71 games with 69 starts. He scored two goals, both in 2023 and added an assist while logging nearly 6,000 minutes of action in his career.
A native of Huntington Beach, California, Lewis graduated from West Liberty with a degree in Business and an emphasis in Sports Management.
