Nilsson Nabs Weekly League Award for Fighting Scots Soccer

Monmouth, IL (11/04/2019) — A season-long grind has paid dividends for Monmouth's Lukas Nilsson (East Malvern, Victoria, Australia) who was awarded this week's Midwest Conference Defensive Performer of the Week for men's soccer.

Nilsson led the Scots to a 3-0 blanking of Ripon Saturday, clinching their first Midwest Conference playoff berth since 2001. The senior defender helped the Scots to their school-record eighth shutout this season, limiting the Red Hawks to just nine shots. He also added another dimension, scoring the Scots' final goal, his third of the season. The shutout kept Monmouth on track to yield their lowest goals allowed total in program history.

A computer science major, Nilsson is the son of Kirstie and Isak Nilsson.
