Ashby, Powers Named Second-Team Softball All-Conference

MONMOUTH, Ill. (05/12/2024) — The Monmouth College softball team put two players on the Midwest Conference Second-Team as All-Conference awards were announced. Infielder Karliegh Ashby (Monmouth, Illinois) and catcher Savannah Powers (Volo, Illinois) earned the honors for the Scots.

Ashby, a sophomore, played her first season for the Scots in 2024. She hit .323 overall, playing in 38 of the 39 games and started 33. Ashby led the Scots with 23 runs scored, four triples and 12 stolen bases while ranking in the top three on the team in extra-base hits (12), hits (31), RBI (14) and doubles (8). In MWC action, Ashby hit in the leadoff spot for all 16 games with a .383 average. 11 runs scored, four doubles and two triples. Six of her nine multi-hit games on the season came in MWC action and she finished the season going 10-for-19 (.526) with six run scored and four extra-base hits in the final six games.

Powers, a freshman, started all 39 games this season, 38 of them behind the plate. She caught 230.2 of Monmouth's 237.2 innings this season and played one game as the DP/1B in February. Overall Powers hit .281 with seven doubles, 12 runs scored and 13 RBI. Her performance at the plate was amplified in MWC action as Powers hit .363 in 16 conference games with five doubles, six RBI and seven runs scored. Defensively, she led the MWC throwing out 17 would-be base stealers on the season, eight in conference action.

Monmouth finished the season in fifth place in the MWC with a 6-10 conference record. Grinnell College won the MWC Tournament on Saturday and will represent the conference in the NCAA Division III Tournament. The coaches select the All-Conference teams bases on MWC stats only.
