Beach Scores as Scots Draw with Beloit
MWC Home Opener ends 1-1
MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/30/2023) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team scored early and held on for a 1-1 draw against Beloit on Saturday. The Scots (2-5-3, 0-1-1) received a tremendous performance from goalkeeper Anna Caster (Greenfield, Indiana) as she produced 17 saves.
Freshman Danielle Beach (Geneseo, Illinois) put the Scots on top with a breakaway goal in the 10th minute. The goal is her fourth of the season and came inside the box on a shot to the far left corner. Beloit outshot Monmouth 10-3 in the first half but Caster had seven saves to keep the Scots on top.
The game was still 1-0 Scots with 15 minutes to play. But in the 77th minute, Beloit got even and neither team scored over the final 13:39. Beloit outshot Monmouth 27-8 for the game and shots on goal were 19-7 but Caster produced a career-high 17 saves and there was one team clearance off the line.
"Really proud of the whole team top to bottom today in a very physical game and intense heat," said head coach Lucas Henderson. "We played with a lot of discipline and heart. Anna in goal along with Avery and Nicole in defense dug deep for 90 minutes to help get that result."
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Avery Parks (Bloomington, Illinois), Elizabeth Schmidt (Waverly, Iowa), Nicole Koppers (Tinley Park, Illinois), Brooke Gruby (Leonardtown, Maryland) and Caster played all 90 minutes. Beach had three shots on goal for the Scots and Natalya Main (Peoria, Illinois) had two. Caster's previous career high was 11 saves, done twice including once this season. The Scots will host Cornell at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
