Boley, Toberman, Men's Relay Claim Conference Titles

Scots finish third in both men's and women's team standings

MONMOUTH, Ill. (05/13/2023) — The Monmouth College track and field teams both finished in third place at the Midwest Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Grinnell, Iowa on Saturday. Maddie Boley (Beecher, Illinois and Caleb Toberman (Clifton, Illinois) swept the shot put titles as both added a second individual title on the weekend. The men's 4x400m relay team also won their event, the final race of the day.

Women
Boley claimed her second individual title of the weekend and third overall outdoor, when she won the shot put with a career-high throw of 12.83m. She also won the shot put at the Indoor Championships in February. Kayla Braun (Evansville, Illinois) finished second at 12.22m with Addi Cox (Morton, Illinois) in third at 12.16m and Gracie Gibbons (Altona, Illinois) took fifth at 11.69m

Monmouth finished fourth, fifth and sixth in the triple jump. Delaney Rexroat (Monmouth, Illinois) took fourth at 10.13m, just in front of Maddie Rusk (Annawan, Illinois) at 10.12m. Linsey Turner (Elburn, Illinois) took sixth with a season-best 10.08m.

Alyssa Villarreal (Galesburg, Illinois) finished seventh in the 100m race in 13.16 seconds with Rusk in eighth at 13.22.

The 4x100m relay team finished sixth and the 4x400m relay team also finished sixth.

The Scots finished with 121 points, in third place behind Ripon and Cornell.

Men
Toberman, who also won two indoor events this year, joined Boley with two titles on the weekend as he threw a career-best 14.95m to win the shot put. Sam Phillips (Cape Coral, Florida) PR'd at 12.94m to finish fifth and Shane Anderson (Lisle, Illinois) threw a personal-best 12.79m to finish seventh.

The 4x400m relay team of Reed Bona (Dyersburg, Tennessee), Patrick Curry Jr. (Chicago, Illinois), Eli Newton (Dallas City, Illinois) and Adrian Outlaw (Galesburg, Illinois) lowered their season best nearly four seconds to win the 4x400m relay. They finished in a time of 3:21.42 to win over Beloit by 0.12 seconds. The 4x100m relay team finished fourth.

Outlaw finished second in the 400m with a career-best 49.52. Patrick Curry took fifth at 51.36 seconds. Outlaw is the 11th runner in Monmouth history to go under 50 seconds in the 400m race and his 49.52 time ranks ninth on the school list. Outlaw also set a new PR in the 200m as he finished fifth in 22.32 seconds.

Newton took fourth in the 800m at 1:57.20 and Bona was sixth in the 400m hurdles with a season-best 58.73. Maurice Greene (Galesburg, Illinois) took fourth in the triple jump with a career-high 13.16m.

Neo Colter (Geneseo, Illinois) finished eighth in the 3000m Steeplechase. Joey Twardowski (Mark, Illinois) and Curry tied for eighth in the high jump at 1.72m with Twardowski winning the tiebreaker to earn a point.

The Scots finished with 110.5 points, in third place behind Ripon and Grinnell.

The Scots will take select individuals to the Augustana Last Meet Qualifier on Thursday, May 18.
