Boley, Toberman, Newton Post Wins as Track & Field Opens Season

MONMOUTH, Ill. (12/14/2024) — The Monmouth College men's and women's track and field teams opened their indoor season on Friday at the Dutch Holiday Preview, hosted by Central College in Pella, Iowa. The Scots picked up a handful of wins as Maddie Boley (Beecher, Illinois) swept the throwing events, Caleb Toberman (Clifton, Illinois) won the weight throw and Eli Newton (Dallas City, Illinois) won the mile race.

MEN

Toberman, a returning NCAA National Qualifier and Second Team All-American, won the weight throw at 18.52m, the fifth best throw by a Division III athlete so far this season. Shane Anderson (Lisle, Illinois) finished second with a top-15 throw at 17.50m and Gunner Bryant (Curryville, Missouri) took fifth at 15.44m.

Toberman took third in the shot put at 14.66m, the best throw so far this season in the Midwest Conference. Blake Orwig (Wyoming, Illinois) was fifth at 14.11m.

Newton won the mile with a time of 4:33.48, just two seconds off his career indoor best. Newton won by 10 seconds and has the second-best time in the MWC this season.

Newton also teamed with Adrian Outlaw (Galesburg, Illinois), Lane Grice (East Galesburg, Illinois) and Logan Morse (Yates City, Illinois) to finish second in the 4x400m relay. The time of 3:36.73 is the best in the MWC so far this season by seven seconds and just outside the top 50 nationally.

Individually, Outlaw took fifth in the 300m race at 37.03 seconds.

WOMEN
Maddie Boley (Beecher, Illinois) delivered the third-best weight throw in Monmouth history with a PR of 17.68m as she led a 1-2-3 Monmouth finish in the event. Her throw is the best in the MWC so far this season and ranks third nationally Jillian Toth (El Paso, Illinois) took second with a PR of 15.48m while Kayla Braun (Evansville, Illinois) was third with a PR of 15.40m. They rank 1-2-3 in the MWC so far this season.

Boley also won the shot put at 12.92m, a top-10 throw nationally and the best in the MWC this season. Braun finished third at 11.99m and Alayna Earle (Clinton, Illinois) was fifth at 11.33m

Miranda Hursey (Hanna City, Illinois) took second in the pole vault at 3.35m, the best result so far this season in the MWC. Delaney Rexroat (Monmouth, Illinois) was third in the triple jump at 9.69m, the second-best result in the MWC this season.

Samantha Costello (Morris, Illinois) took fourth in the 3000m race in 11:49.30, the third-best time in the MWC this season. Melissa Bivolarov (Arlington, Heights, Illinois) took fifth in the mile run with a new PR of 6:00.79, a top-5 MWC time this season.


NEXT UP:

The Scots are off for the winter holiday break before returning to campus in early January. The next meet is the Fighting Bee Invitational at St. Ambrose in Davenport, Iowa on Saturday, Jan. 18. The Scots will host the Midwest Classic in the Huff Fieldhouse on Friday, Jan 24 at 4 p.m.
