Bossert Second, Stevens Fourth at Fighting Scot Invite

by Nathan Baliva

MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/17/2023) — The Monmouth College golf teams hosted the fall Fighting Scots Invite this weekend at a soggy Gibson Woods Golf Course. Briggs Bossert (Evanston, Illinois) finished second overall in the men's event while Amanda Stevens (Mason City, Illinois) finished fourth in the women's event.

Saturday's round was halted with most players still on the course due to a torrential downpour and hail storm. Those who hadn't completed their round, returned at 8:30 a.m. Sunday to where they were called off the course Saturday night. Most had three holes or less to complete before starting round two.

Bossert was tied for first after the first round with an even-par 71. He shot a 76 on Sunday and finished in second place, two shots behind the winner. Ganon Greenman (Alpha, Illinois) shot a 79 on Saturday but didn't play on Sunday. Carter Wilson (Washington, Illinois) finished in a tie for 17th with an 84-79-163. Thomas Henson (Geneseo, Illinois) was 30th with an 86-88-174. Gordon Kiesgen (Spring Grove, Illinois) was right behind Henson with 90-87-177 and Grant Foster (Galesburg, Illinois) shot 89-92-181. Zackery Manley (Lincoln, Illinois) shot a 199 and Nick Maresco (Highland Park, Illinois) was at 218.

The Scots finished seventh as a team with 330-335-665 for their final score.

On the women's side, Stevens (Mason City, Illinois) finished fourth with 91-84-175. Sarah Saddoris (Port Byron, Illinois) finished 11th with a 99-91-190 while Annalyn Lovell (Oneida, Illinois) was 26th with a 108-10-217. Lexie Campbell (Earlville, Illinois) was right behind Lovell with 109-111-210. Sydney Grant (Morton, Illinois) shot 133-142-277 and Izzy McDermott (Evanston, Illinois) was next at 159-159-318.

The women finished third as a team with 407-395-802.

Both teams will play next weekend in the Midwest Region Classic. The two-day event, hosted by Benedictine, is played at the Brighton Dale Links in Kansasville, Wisconsin. Tee times start at 1 p.m. on Friday.
