Both Monmouth Swim Teams Win Midseason Invite at Beloit

MONMOUTH, Ill. (11/24/2024) — The Monmouth College swim teams both won the Midseason Invite at Beloit College on Saturday. The men scored 838 points while the women scored 762 in the two-day event as the Fighting Scots beat MWC foes Ripon, Illinois College and Beloit.

"We had a lot of great swims all weekend," said head coach Jake Dacus. "It was a fun time and a successful way to end the first half of the season."

WOMEN

Cally Tate (Monmouth, Illinois) won the 100 backstroke in 1:01.38 and also won the 200 backstroke by five seconds with a time of 2:12.51. Aiden Bach (Stetsonville, Wisconsin) was fourth in the 100 in 1:07.55 and fourth in the 200 at 2:25.46. Tate was second in the 100 freestyle in 56.88 and fourth in the 50 free at 25.80.

Allie Warren (Galesburg, Illinois) and Lea Schmitt (Rockford, Illinois) went 1-2 in the 200 breaststroke. Warren swam 2:32.52 with Schmitt at 2:35.11 and Addie Smith (Monmouth, Illinois) took fourth in 2:41.49.

They also went 1-2 in the 100 backstroke with Warren in 1:10.52 and Schmitt in 1:11.91. Warren won the 200 yard IM in 2:20.67 and she was third in the 200 freestyle in 2:07.54.

Caitlyn Stewart (Monmouth, Illinois) won the 400 yard IM in 5:02.62 while Nicole Fitch (Marengo, Illinois) took fourth in 5:19.97. Stewart and Fitch went 1-2 in the 1650 yard freestyle. Stewart won the event in 19:33.27 with Fitch right behind in 19:34.51.

Stewart also took second in the 500 freestyle in 5;33.55. She was also third in the 100 butterfly in 1:06.19

The 400 medley relay team of Tate, Stewart, Warren and Claire LaBadie (Griffith, Indiana) won with a time of 4:17.51. The 200 freestyle relay of LaBadie, Fitch, Warren and Tate took third in 1:46.86. The 200 medley relay team of Bach, Warren, Fitch and Smith took third in 2:01.20. The 400 freestyle team of Stewart, Warren, LaBadie and Tate took third in 3:58.41.

MEN

Jordan Bridgford (Kapolei, Hawai'i) won the 100 backstroke in 56.72 with Bucket Youvan (Rochester, Indiana) in second at 57.36, Bridgford also won the 200 backstroke in 2:05.25 while Luke Foster (Galesburg, Illinois) was third in 2:11.89

Kody Coyne (Bluffton, Indiana) won the 200 breaststroke in 2:21.40 with Ethan Main (Oneida, Illinois) in second at 2;27.15. Coyne was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.22 with Main in third at 1:05.24.

Tariq McLarty (South Holland, Illinois) took second in the 50 freestyle in 21.95 with Youvan in fourth at 22.26. McLarty was second in the 100 butterfly in 52.39 and second in the 100 freestyle in 49.23.

Coyne took third in the 200 yard IM in 2:15.59, out-touching Main in 2:15.60. Main took second in the 400 IM in 5:01.16 with Coyne in third at 5:01.39.

Tristan Kennon (Flossmoor, Illinois) was third in the 200 freestyle in 1:51.19 with McLarty in fourth at 1:53.74.

Eli Wills (Blue Springs, Missouri) took third in the 200 fly in 2:18.21 with Jaydon Wilbon (Crown Point, Indiana) in fourth at 2:46.73.

Jaeden Peters (Greenfield, Indiana) was third in the 1650 yard freestyle in 20:03.88 and fourth in the 500 yard freestyle in 5:48.69.

The men's 200 freestyle relay team of Foster, Youvan, Kennon and McLarty won in 1:28.87. The Scots went 1-2 in the 400 medley relay. The A-team of Foster, Coyne, McLarty and Kennon won in 3:42.27 with the B-team of Bridgford, Main, Wills and Youvan taking second in 3:48.67.

The 200 medley relay team of Bridgford, Coyne, McLarty and Youvan won in 1:39.55.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Youvan, Foster, Kennon and Mclarty won in 3:19.16

The Scots are now off until January 11 when they face Coe and Augusstana in a tri-meet in Rock Island, Illinois. The next home meet is Friday, Jan, 17 against Beloit at 4 p.m.
