Both Tennis Teams Fall to Webster on Sunday
MONMOUTH, Ill. (04/15/2024) — The Monmouth College tennis teams faced Webster university at home on Sunday in matches rescheduled from March 29. The women lost 6-3 while the men lost 9-0.
Sawyer Day (Kansas City, Missouri) and Spencer Corn (Cupertino, California) played at No. 1 doubles with an 8-5 loss. Andrew Nickols (Janesville, Wisconsin) and Macaden Sepich (Mackinaw, Illinois) played at No. 2 doubles falling 8-1, The Scots do not have a No. 3 doubles team.
Day played at No. 1 singles and lost 6-2, 6-2 while Nickols lost 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2. Sepich fell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 while Corn lost by the same score at No. 4. Nehemiah Declaw (Aurora, Colorado) played No. 5 and lost 6-0, 6-0.
On the women's side, playing for the first time since October, Ivana Stefanova (Streamwood, Illinois) and Natalie Labicki (Antioch, Illinois) won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. Jennifer Shimmin (Monmouth, Illinois) and Kimber Calvert (Paris, Illinois) lost 8-5 at No. 2 doubles and Maddie Psomas (Hoffman Estates, Illinois) and Alayna McKinley (Rock Island, Illinois) lost 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.
Stefanova won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles while Labicki won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2. Calvert fell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 and Shimmin lost 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4. McKinley debuted at No. 5 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 loss and Psomas lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Monmouth men's team hosts Illinois College at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday for Senior Day. The women are done for the season.
