Coats Named MWC Pitcher of the Week

MONMOUTH, Ill (04/28/2025) — Monmouth College sophomore Brandon Coats (Mapleton, Illinois) was named Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday.

Coats won both of his appearances last week as the Scots went 3-1 and moved up the standings as the only team with 11 MWC victories. Coats started at home on Wednesday and picked up the win against then 1st place Illinois College.He allowed just one earned run against the Blue Boys over five innings and struck out three. Monmouth won the game 6-3 to move into a tie with IC in the standings. .

On Sunday, Coats entered a tie game against 1st place Beloit with the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh inning. He picked up a huge strikeout to end the inning and the Scots scored four in the bottom of the frame. Monmouth won 10-7 and Coats picked up his second win of the week with three strikeouts over 1 1/3 innings.

In both games he pitched in tandem with senior Toby Turnquist (Monmouth, Illinois). Turnquist got the save on Wednesday with four innings and was the starter on Sunday with a quality start. Turnquist is the only other Monmouth pitcher to win Pitcher of the Week in 2025.

The Scots host Westminster (MO). for a double header at 1 p.m. on Wednesday before returning to MWC action this weekend with three games at Ropon
