Defense Smothers, Offense Clicks in Shutout Win
Alvaro Alvarez punched in a pair of goals Friday night as Monmouth rolled past North Central University (Minn.) 4-0 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The Scots fired off 19 shots, putting 12 on goal as Alvarez netted the only goal Monmouth would need in the 15th minute. He found his second goal just 17 minutes later as the Scots' defense didn't allow NCU a shot in the first half.
Newcomer Nicolas Esparon, who assisted on the game's first goal, added his own score in the 52nd minute, seven minutes before Cadan Glattback added the Scots' fourth goal. Kieren Marshall notched the win, turning aside the only shot he faced as Monmouth allowed just two shots the entire game.
Monmouth resumes play in Cedar Rapids Saturday morning with a 9:30 match against Lakeland.
