DeLeeuw Hat Trick Helps Women's Lacrosse Beat Beloit

Scots win 9-6 for first victory of 2021

MONMOUTH, Ill - (04/15/2021) — The Monmouth College women's lacrosse team picked up their first win of the season on Wednesday night with a non-conference 9-6 victory over Beloit College. Hadyn Deleeuw (Kirksville, Missouri) scored a hat trick for the Scots (1-5) while three other players scored two goals each in the win.

"It wasn't pretty but it was good to get a win," said Elizabeth Demara. "Hadyn really stepped up for us tonight in scoring and with her presence in midfield."DeLeeuw scored the opener just 2:30 into the game and after Beloit tied the game, Mel Fairand (Bloomington, Illinois) put the Scots up 2-1. Mackenzie Holmes (Clive, Iowa) scored twice around a goal by Aspen Chadderdon (Marshalltown, Iowa) and the Scots led 5-1 with 12:18 to play in the first half. Deleeuw scored again with 10:42 left in the first half. and Fairand made it 7-1 before halftime. Chadderdon and DeLeeuw scored again in the first 11 minutes of the second half as the Scots led 9-4. Beloit got the final two goals as Monmouth won the game 9-6. "We are shifting our focus back to conference play now and getting ready for Wartburg on Saturday," Demara said.MONMOUTH MOMENTS: The Scots took 31 shots in the game...Olivia Matlock (Lee's Summit, Missouri) made nine saves...Monmouth won 11 of 17 draw controls...Chadderdon led the team with five ground balls and added seven draw controls...The Scots host Wartburg on Saturday at 3 p.m. at April Zorn Stadium...Saturday is Senior Day.
