by Nathan Baliva

MONMOUTH, Ill. (04/10/2022) — The Monmouth lacrosse team set multiple school records in a 23-4 win over North Central (MN) on Saturday. The 23 goals break the school record set earlier this season and the 19-goal win margin also break the program record.

The Scots (5-3, 1-0) scored the first eight goals of the game and led 8-0 after the first quarter. Kain Donohoo (St. Charles, Illinois) scored the opener and added another in the quarter. Jeff Knapp (Nolensville, Tennessee) scored three goals in the first quarter, one assisted by Donohoo. Gorgon Kiesgen (Spring Grove, Illinois), Michael Casey (Chicago, Illinois) and Jack Koenn (Dexter, Michigan) also scored in the first quarter.

Knapp's fourth goal of the game made it 9-1 and the Scots scored four more in the second quarter. Jack White (Omaha, Nebraska) scored the 10th goal of the game before Donohoo got his hat trick. Casey scored the final two goals of the half and Monmouth lead 13-4 at the break.

The Scots scored all 10 goals in the second half as Teagan Simons (Littleton, Colorado) and Nehemiah Declaw (Aurora, Colorado) combined to shut out the Rams in the final 30 minutes. Simons made 10 saves in the game and Declaw made four.

Liam Meyer (Cedarburg, Wisconsin) and Mason Sanford (Peoria, Illinois) both scored twice in the second half. Donohoo added three more goals while Casey and White scored again. Gavin Conway (Steeleville, Illinois) scored his first career goal in the fourth quarter. Donohoo finished with a career-high six goals while Casey and Knapp had four each.

Monmouth out-shot North Central 60-25 and Kiesgen won 23 of 30 faceoffs. The Scots play at Lake Forest on Wednesday night in the first ever lacrosse game between the two schools.
