by Nathan Baliva

MONMOUTH, Ill. (04/23/2022) — The Monmouth College lacrosse team celebrated senior day by scoring the final three goals of the game to beat Northland College 11-9 on Saturday. The Scots are now 6-6 overall and 2-3 in Midwest Lacrosse Conference play with one game left. A win at Cornell next Saturday would put the Scots in position to qualify for the MLC Tournament while a loss leaves the Scots needing help.

The Scots got on the board first as Liam Meyer (Cedarburg, Wisconsin) scored 39 seconds into the game. The LumberJacks got the next two goals before Kain Donohoo (St. Charles, Illinois) tied the game. After the visitors scored again, LH Bond (Fishers, Indiana) tied the game 3-3 with 1:38 to play in the first quarter.

Bond gave the Scots a 4-3 lead just 24 seconds into the second quarter. He scored again four minutes later to give Monmouth a 5-3 lead and both second quarter goals were assisted by Donohoo. Northland scored the final four goals of the half to lead 7-5 at the break.

Donohoo scored 37 seconds into the third quarter to cut the LumberJacks lead to 7-6. Bond's fourth goal of the game tied the match 7-7 just over a minute later. Neither team scored over the next 10 minutes and Northland took an 8-7 lead with 2:14 to go in the quarter.

Donohoo scored 1:11 into the fourth quarter to tie the game but Northland regained the lead just over a minute later. Jeff Knapp (Nolensville, Tennessee) scored with 8:39 to play, tying the game 9-9.
