Donohoo Scores Four but Scots Lose at Dubuque Wednesday

Knapp, Meyer add hat tricks

MONMOUTH, Ill. (04/21/2022) — The Monmouth College lacrosse team fell to first-place Dubuque 21-11 on Wednesday night in Iowa. The Scots (5-6, 1-3) have two games left in the regular season, with the home finale on Saturday.

Dubuque scored the first two goals of the game, including the opener just 51 seconds into the game. Kain Donohoo (St. Charles, Illinois) got the Scots on the board with 9:09 to go in the first quarter. The teams traded goals over the next three minutes with Liam Meyer (Cedarburg, Wisconsin) scoring for Monmouth. Meyer scored again to cut the Spartans lead to 4-3 and Donohoo tied the game with 5:07 to play in the first.

The hosts scored the final two goals of the first quarter and then went on a 6-0 run to start the second quarter. They led 12-4 when the Scots scored for the first time in 15:37. Gordon Kiesgen (Spring Grove, Illinois) won the faceoff and scored himself before Jeff Knapp (Nolensville, Tennessee) scored 20 seconds later. Dubuque scored the final goal of the half to lead 13-6.

The teams traded goals over the first nine minutes of the third quarter with Knapp scoring twice and Donohoo once for the Scots. Down 16-9, Monmouth gave up the final two goals of the third quarter. The Spartans pushed the lead to 20-9 in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter. Donohoo scored his fourth goal of the game with 4:15 to play and Meyer collected a hat trick 31 seconds later. Dubuque scored the final goal for a 21-11 win.
