MONMOUTH, Ill. (04/06/2021) — Monmouth College senior Drew Thaxton (Decatur, Illinois) has been named the Midwest Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field, Field Performer of the Week after winning three events at the first meet of the season.

At the Beloit College Invitational in Wisconsin on Saturday, Thaxton took first place in the Shot Put, Discus Throw and Hammer throw. His shot put throw of 16.00m (52'6") leads the MWC so far in 2021 and ranks seventh in all of Division III. The throw is the best of his outdoor career and fifth best overall.

Thaxton also set a career-high mark in the hammer throw at 48.65m (159' 7"). His previous high was 48.56m (159' 4") at the Illinois College True Blue Open on April 27, 2019. Thaxton threw the discus 41.16m (135' 0") on Saturday, outpacing the rest of the field.

Thaxton won the Shot Put at the 2019 MWC Championships with a throw of 15.60m (51' 2-1/4"). He was named a 2020 Indoor Track and Field All-American in the Weight Throw and Shot Put when the championships were cancelled last spring.

The Fighting Scots are next in action on Saturday with the Fighting Scot Invitational at April Zorn Stadium. Results will be provided via monmouthscots.com and on twitter at @MonmouthGameday.
