Scots sweep awards after 42-0 win
MONMOUTH, Ill. (10/04/2021) — Fresh off their 42-0 win over Lawrence on Saturday, the Monmouth College Fighting Scots football team swept the Midwest Conference Player of the Week awards on Monday. Quarterback Riley Fetterer (Milan, Illinois) was named Offensive Player of the Week, defensive end Korbyn Personett (Pittsfield, Illinois) Defensive Player of the Week and punter Addison Fletcher (Monmouth, Illinois) Special Teams Player of the Week.
Fetterer, a junior making his second career start at quarterback, completed 16-of-26 passes for 246 yards on Saturday. The yards were a career-high, as were his four passing touchdowns, two each to Nathan Graham (Monticello, Illinois) and Jake Uryasz (Farmington, Illinois). Fetterer also ran for 83 yards on seven carries and on the day accounted for 329 total yards.
Personett, a senior defensive end, also had a career day as the Scots shut out the Vikings. He finished with four of the Scots nine sacks, setting a career-high and an individual season high for any Scots player. Personett had two sacks on third down, one on fourth and forced a fumble from Lawrence quarterback D'Andre Weaver. He finished the game with seven tackles, five solo, and accounted for nearly 40 lost yards by the Vikings.
Fletcher, a junior punter, was called on three times Saturday and he flipped the field each time. His booming punts averaged 48.7 yards with a long of 52. He put one inside the Lawrence 20 and on the season averages 41.1 yards per punt. He has four punts inside the 20 on the season and two of at least 50 yards.
The Scots have won four Midwest Conference weekly awards this year as linebacker Evan Otto (Canton, Illinois) won Defensive Player of the Year after the September 11 win against Grinnell. Defensive End Tevin Baker (Kewanee, Illinois) made the D3footbal.com Team of the Week after picking up three sacks at Illinois College on September 18.
At 3-0 the Scots are tied for first in the MWC and will face another 3-0 team on Saturday when the University of Chicago comes to April Zorn Stadium for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
