Foglesong, Braun Win Events at First Day of MWC Championships

Men in third, women in fourth after six events

MONMOUTH, Ill. (05/09/2026) — The Monmouth College men's and women's track and field teams picked up two wins on the opening day of the Midwest Conference Outdoor Championships on Friday. After six scored events the men are in third place and the women are tied for fourth. .

Freshman Kaden Foglesong (Ipava, Illinois) led a sweep of the pole vault with a new PR of 4.10m Kayla Braun (Evansville, Illinois) kept the Monmouth dominance in women's shot put going with a 13.65m throw as she also led a sweep of the event.

MEN

Foglesong and Lane Grice (East Galesburg, Illinois) both cleared 4.10m and failed at 4.25m. Foglesong had less misses on the day with one to Grice's three, and thus won the title on a tie-breaker. Matthew Bright (Macomb, Illinois) completed the sweep with a third place finish at 3.95m. This marks the 27th MWC Championship for the Scots in outdoor pole vault and the first since Reed Wilson won his second in a row in 2022. These three also swept the podium at the indoor meet this season with Grice winning.

Blake Orwig (Wyoming, Illinois) took fourth in the men's hammer at 15.25m. Michael Moreno (Galesburg, Illinois) added three points with a sixth-place finish as he threw a PR of 50.12m. Gunner Bryant (Curryville, Missouri) returned from injury to score a point with an eighth-place finish at 47.45m.

Orwig also picked up a point with an eighth place finish in the discus as he threw 40.02m

Johnny York (Elmwood, Illinois) picked up four points with a fifth-place finish in the long jump at 6.49m.

Foglesong qualified for Saturday's 110m hurdles final with a third place finish in the qualifiers. He ran a PR of 15.26 seconds.

Adrian Outlaw (Galesburg, Illinois) qualified for Saturday's 400m final as he won his heat in 50.75 seconds. Patrick Curry Jr. (Chicago, Illinois) also qualified for the final with a season-best 51.36.

Maddux Clark (Monmouth, Illinois) qualified for Saturday's 100m final with a PR of 10.83 seconds.

WOMEN

Braun won the shot put at 13.65m, to complete the indoor-outdoor sweep of the event. This is the fourth straight year the Scots have won the event with Braun finishing second to Maddie Boley in each of the last three seasons. JIllian Toth (El Paso, Illinois) finished second at 12.30 and Kyra Bivins (Esmond, Illinois) took third for the sweep with a PR of 12.01m. The Scots have won the outdoor women's shot put 16 times in their history.

Madison Rusk (Annawan, Illinois) was sixth in the long jump with an outdoor season-best of 5.12m,

Hazel Hill (Pleasant Hill. Illinois) placed sixth in the pole vault with a PR of 2.05m.

Toth picked up a point as she finished eighth in the javelin at 27.19m.

Sophia Kern (Abingdon, Illinois) and Tatum Points (East Peoria, Illinois) both qualified for Saturday's 100m hurdles final. Kern ran a PR of 17.25 seconds to qualify in sixth place and points was right behind her with a season-best 17.92 seconds.

Kern also qualified for the finals in the 400m hurdles as she finished sixth in the prelims with a PR of 1:09.52
