Gould Scores to Help Scots Earn Draw
Monmouth to finish season at home on Saturday
MONMOUTH, Ill. (10/27/2022) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team played their last road game of the season on Wednesday, rallying for a 1-1 draw at Cornell College . The Scots are now 3-10-2 on the season, 0-5-2 in MWC play.
Neither team scored for the first 40 minutes. Cornell broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 42nd minute to take a 1-0 lead. Monmouth were outshot by the Rams in the first 45 minutes, 10-4 with shots on goal even at 2-2. Natalya Main (Peoria, Illinois) and Lynn Rech (Vacaville, California) had the shots on goal for Monmouth.
The score remained 1-0 Rams until the 74th minute. Lizzy Gould (Cambridge, Wisconsin) took a pass from Kaylee Doebert (Mount Horeb, Wisconsin) adn scored her second goal of the season to tie the game. Doebert now has three assists.
Neither team scored the rest of the way and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Scots goalkeeper Bronte De Zwart (Adelaide, Australia) finished with three saves.
"I'm proud of this team's heart today, digging our way back for a draw," said coach Lucas Henderson. "Avery Parks (Bloomington, Illinois) and Doebert did a great job in the back and Lizzy showed a lot of grit scoring the goal through contact."
The Scots will finish the season at home on Saturday against Lawrence. Kickoff is scheduled for approximately 3 p.m., following the men's game against Lawrence. Doebert) and Sam Koppers (Tinley Park, Illinois) will be honored in a pre-game ceremony for Senior Day..
