Haynes Scores Twice as Scots Win 4-0 at Blackburn

Kistler Adds Goal and Assist

by Nathan Baliva

MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/09/2026) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team got two goals from freshman Sophie Haynes (Pekin, Illinois) plus a goal and an assist from sophomore Morgan Kistler (Kokomo, Indiana) to win at Blackburn 4-0 on Wednesday. The victory moves the Scots to 2-0 to start a season for the first time since 2018.

Neither team took a shot in the first nine minutes of the contest. Monmouth played the ball all the way back to goalkeeper Izzy Seipold (Peoria, Illinois) and switched the attack to the right side through Kistler. The sophomore worked back into the middle and through the left and eventually found its way to Haynes. With just over nine minutes gone, Haynes beat the Blackburn keeper for her first collegiate goal and a 1-0 lead.

Lily Palazzolo (Washington, Michigan) forced a save in the 28th minute and again just before halftime. Seipold made one save in the half as Monmouth took a 1-0 lead into the break.

Kiersten Medinger (Silvis, Illinois) put a shot on goal early in the second half and Kistler had a shot saved in the 57th minute. Cadence Covert (Pekin, Illinois) took over in goal for the second half and made a save in the 64th minute. Natalie Morrow (Silvis, Illinois) had a shot turned away and Covert made two more saves to keep the Scots up 1-0.

Haynes doubled the lead with her second goal of the game in the 79th minute as Kistler picked up the assist with a perfect cross from the left side. Haynes was wide open at the far post and volleyed the ball past the Blackburn keeper for a 2-0 lead. With just under five minutes to play, Taylor Freeman made it 3-0 with a long range effort on a free kick that bounced into the goal. Just 30 seconds later the Scots used a quick restart by Allison Griffin (Geneseo, Illinois) to make it 4-0 as Kistler caught the Blackburn goalie off the line from 20 yards out.
