Hernandez Scores in Men's Lacrosse Loss
MONMOUTH, Ill. (04/08/2023) — The Monmouth College men's lacrosse team traveled to St. Paul, Minnesota for a Saturday MLC contest and lost to the University of Northwestern (Minn.) 18-1. The Scots (1-10, 0-2) last traveled to UNW (3-5, 2-0) for the 2021 MLC Championship Game.
The Eagles scored 1:47 into the game and led 4-0 after the first quarter. They pushed the lead to 7-0 with three man-up goals early in the second period and led 12-0 at half. The Eagles scored twice in the third quarter and led 15-0 when Carlos Hernandez (Billings, Montana) got the Scots on the board. Kai Johnson (Sun Prairie, Wisconsin) picked up the assist with 9:16 to play. The hosts scored the final three goals of the game for an 18-1 win.
Gordon Kiesgen (Spring Grove, Illinois) led the Scots with four ground balls and Xandru Borst (Schererville, Indiana) led the team with four caused turnovers. Nehemiah Declaw (Aurora, Colorado) made 15 saves in goal.
The Scots are next in action at home on Saturday, April 15 against Lake Forest at Noon.
