Hobson Scores Twice as Scots Beat BVU

by Patrick Curry Jr/Nathan Baliva

MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/14/2025) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team scored four unanswered goals to knock off Buena Vista 4-1 on Saturday. The Fighting Scots are now 3-2 overall and 2-0 at home this season.

Buena Vista scored in the 33rd minute but Monmouth got even two minutes later. Kiersten Medinger (Silvis, Illinois) scored on a free kick and the game stayed 1-1 into halftime.

"In the first half we had some chances that we didn't put away," said head coach Lucas Henderson. "For the second half we just wanted to make sure we stayed the course and make sure that the work remained. We felt that if we did that then the goals would find the back of the net. But if we didn't keep working then we would've had trouble getting there."

Just 2:52 seconds into the second half the Scots got back on the board with a goal coming from Mariah Hobson.(Princeton, Illinois). The goal is her second of the season with Jackie Contreras (Peoria, Illinois) picking up the assist.

"We were really eager to beat this team last year and we just fell short so it's really nice to come out with a win like this," said Hobson.

Hobson had a clear intention of helping her team win by any means possible.

"I knew I had to be smart in this game," said Hobson. "I do still have a partial pull in my quad on my left so I knew I needed to favor my right and be smart about it. I'm always hungry to play but I knew it was something I needed to play through and it's nice to have some stats to go along with it, but I just want to play for my team."

About 30 minutes after her first goal of the evening Hobson scored again to extend the lead to 3-1. This time the assist went to Madi Myers (Renesselaer, Indiana). Molly Shook (Morton, Illinois) finished off the game, just three minutes after Hobson scored, with her first career goal.

"It was fantastic to see Molly score," said Henderson "She's one of those players that works hard everyday and I'm very proud of her for putting the ball away. I think it was a fairly complete game. It took us a while to break through but once we did we handled it."

Goalkeeper Izzy Seipold (Peoria, Illinois) played all 90 minutes and made one save.
