Jones Scores 19 but Scots Fall to Ripon

MONMOUTH, Ill. (01/18/2025) — The Monmouth College women's basketball team got 19 points from Ashley Jones (Abingdon, Illinois) but lost at home to Ripon 71-38 on Saturday. The Fighting Scots (4-12, 1-6) will be back at home next Saturday against Lawrence.

Ripon scored the first nine points before Brooklyn Sellers (Freeport, Illinois) scored with 4:59 to play in the quarter. Jones made two free throws but Ripon led 19-4 after the first quarter as the Scots didn't make another field goal.

Ripon led 25-4 when Kiersten Cox (Illinois City, Illinois).scored in the lane. Sellers made a free throw and Jones converted a 3-point play but the Scots trailed 33-10 with 3:22 to go in the half. Allie Hoy (Woodland, Illinois) made two free throws and Jones scored four straight points in the lane. Hoy hit two more free throws and Monmouth trailed 43-18 at halftime.

Kynlee Stearns (Gilson, Illinois) started the second half with a 3-pointer but Ripon pushed the lead to 29. Jones knocked down two more free throws and made a 3-pointer for a 52-26 Ripon lead. Ella Goodrich (Minonk, Illinois) scored in transition off a steal but the visitors led 57-29 after three quarters.

Jones scored to start the fourth quarter before Ripon pushed the lead to 30. Goodrich knocked down two free throws as did Jones but Ripon extended the lead to 32. Their lead grew to 34 before Delaney Scheidenhelm (New Berlin, Illinois) made a free throw with 1:23 to play. Stearns scored the final field goal of the game and Ripon made free throws for the 71-38 win.

Jones led the Scots with 19 points and no one else had more than five. Sellers led the team with eight rebounds while Hoy had two assists and Stearns collected three steals.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Jones has scored in double figures 12 times this season ... She also had three blocks and is now 10th in Monmouth history with 41 career blocks ... The Scots were 16-for-21 at the free throw line ... Ripon leads the all-time series 38-21 with eight straight wins ... Monmouth's last win was the 2020 MWC Championship Game ... The teams meet again on Feb. 15 in Wisconsin ... The Scots play at Grinnell on Wednesday and return at home on Saturday with a 1 p.m. game against Lawrence.
