Kiesgen Scores Twice in Men's Lacrosse Loss
Scots open conference play with home setback
MONMOUTH, Ill. (04/02/2023) — The Monmouth College men's lacrosse team opened conference play on Saturday with a 25-4 loss against defending champion Dubuque (4-6, 1-0). The Scots (1-9, 0-1) got two goals from Gordon Kiesgen (Spring Grove, Illinois) in the loss.
Dubuque scored 10 goals in the first quarter and led 13-0 before Michael Casey (Chicago, Illinois) scored with 3:40 to play in the first half. The Spartans led 14-1 at halftime.
Dubuque scored the first four goals of the second half before Kiesgen scored twice in four seconds. He won the faceoff at 3:32 and scored 10 seconds later to make it 18-2. He then won the faceoff and scored immediately for an 18-3 game.
Dubuque scored the next seven goals for a 25-3 lead before Ben LaFrenere (Schaumburg, Illinois) scored with 3:04 to play. Carlos Hernandez (Billings, Montana) assisted on the final goal.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Casey has scored in all 10 games and leads Monmouth with 23 goals and 28 points. Hernandez leads the Scots with eight assists. Dubuque is 6-0 against the Scots, 3-0 in Monmouth. The Spartans won the MLC regular season and tournament titles last year, falling 11-6 in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Scots are next in action on Saturday, April 8 at University of Northwestern (MN) with a 1 p.m. start in St. Paul. The next home game is April 15 against Lake Forest at Noon.
