Matkovic Named Second-Team All-Conference for Baseball

Team wins MWC Sportsmanship Award

MONMOUTH, Ill. (05/16/2024) — The Monmouth College baseball team had one All-Conference selection on Thursday as sophomore outfielder Clayton Matkovic (Sherrard, Illinois) made the Midwest Conference Second Team. Matkovic led the Scots with an overall batting average of .340 on the season while starting all 38 games.

The center fielder also led the Scots in runs (32), hits (52), doubles (9), walks (24) and posted a .422 OBP. Matkovic set the Monmouth single-season triples record with seven and led the team with 16 multi-hit games.

In conference play, Matkovic started all 24 games and hit .330 with an .893 OPS and a .479 slugging. He had five doubles, three triples and a homer against MWC opposition with 16 runs scored and 13 RBI. He also led the MWC in triples and finished in the top 15 in average, OBP, hits, walks and doubles.

In addition to the individual award, the Scots won the Sportsmanship Award as a team.
