McLarty Sets School Record in 100 Fly at MWC Championships

MONMOUTH, Ill. (02/23/2025) — The Monmouth College women's swim team moved up to sixth place while the men stayed in seventh place at the Midwest Conference Championships after Saturday's events. Tariq McLarty (South Holland, Illinois) broke the school record in the 100 Fly twice on Saturday and finished fifth overall in the event. The women have 165 points after 28 events while the men have 128..

MEN

In the 100 fly, McLarty broke a 14-year old school record in the prelims with a time of 51.54. He went even faster in the finals with a time of 51.47 to finish fifth in the conference. Eli Wills (Blue Springs, MissourI) swam a PR of 55.80 in the prelims and Jaydon Wilbon (Crown Point, Indiana) had a season-best 1:06.72

In the 400 IM, Kody Coyne (Bluffton, Indiana) earned five points with a 12th place finish in :29.13, a PR and the eighth best time in MC history. Ethan Main (Oneida, Illinois) finished 13th and earned four points with a time of 4:52.49. Coyne swam 4:47.94 in the prelims while Main swam a PR of 4:51.92

In the 100 Breaststroke, Coyne finished 10th in a PR of 1:00.22, sixth in MC history while Main was 16th in a PR of 1:02.95. Coyne qualified with a time of 1:00.85 and Main qualified with a time of 1:03.54

In the 100 backstroke, Jordan Bridgford (Kapolei, Hawai'i) finished 15th in a new PR of 56.68, the 10th-best time in MC history. Bucket Youvan (Rochester, Indiana) finished 16th in 57.51 to earn a point. Bridgford swam 56.74 in the prelims while Youvan was right behind him at 57.98.

In the 200 freestyle, Luke Foster (Galesburg, Illinois) finished 12th to earn five points in 1:51.33 while Calvin Wellman (San Antonio, Texas) picked up two points in 15th place with a time of 1:58.50. Foster swam a season-best 1:50.71 in the prelims and Wellman swam a PR of 1:58.49. Jaeden Peters (Greenfield, Indiana) had a season-best in the prelims of 2:09.49. (148.15)

The men's 200 medley relay team of Bridgford, Coyne, McLarty and Youvan finished fourth and posted the sixth-best time in school history at 1:38.77

WOMEN

Caitlyn Stewart (Monmouth, Illinois) finished sixth in the 400 Individual Medley with a PR of 4:47.61, the second-best time in MC history. She took 12 seconds off her previous best in the prelims with a swim of 4:50.38 and went even three seconds faster in the finals. Nicole Fitch (Marengo, Illinois) earned four points with a 13th place finish in a season-best time of 5:02.17. Fitch qualified for the finals with a prelims time of 5:03.31.

In the 100 breaststroke, Lea Schmitt (Rockford, Illinois) finished eighth in 1:09.83, Allie Warren (Galesburg, Illinois) was ninth with a PR of 1:08.44 and Addie Smith (Monmouth, Illinois) was 11th in 1:11.12. Warren's time is second in MC history and Schmitt's is fourth. In the prelims, Schmitt swam a season-best 1:09.57 and Warren swam 1:10.16 . Smith entered the top 10 with her prelims time of 1:11.82, a PR, Abbie Ames (Rhinelander, Wisconsin) swam a PR of 1:22.62 in the prelims as did Isabel Lynch (Rock Island, Illinois) at 1:22.82.

In the 100 backstroke, Cally Tate (Monmouth, Illinois) finished sixth in a season-best 1:00.35. She swam 1:00.84 in the prelims while Aiden Bach (Stetsonville, Wisconsin) set a new season-best in the prelims at 1:06.72

The 200 yard medley relay team of Tate, Stewart, Schmitt and Smith finished seventh in 1:56.01, sixth-best in MC history.

The meet continues on Sunday with prelims at 9 a.m. and finals at 4 p.m.
