Men & Women's Track & Field Teams Both Finish 2nd at MWC Championships

Toberman, Cox, Turner win individual events, Men's 4x400m relay wins

MONMOUTH, Ill. (02/25/2023) — The Monmouth College track and field teams both finished in second place at the Midwest Conference Championships on Saturday. The Scots pulled three individual wins in the final day of the event plus a men's relay win.

Men

Caleb Toberman (Clifton, Illinois) won the weight throw title with a throw of 18.14m with Shane Anderson (Lisle, Illinois) in second at 16.87m. Blake Orwig (Wyoming, Illinois)was seventh with a career-best 14.40m and Jeff Schnetzler (Metamora, Illinois) was ninth with a career-best 14.29m.

The men's 4x400m relay team of Reed Bona (Dyersburg, Tennessee), Patrick Curry Jr. (Chicago, Illinois) Eli Newton (Dallas City, Illinois) and Adrian Outlaw (Galesburg, Illinois) won the event in a time of 3:27.29, two seconds better than their seed time. The Scots won the final event of the day by nearly a full second to clinch second place in the team standings.

The men finished fourth in the Distance Medley Relay. Eli Perry (Mt. Prospect, Illinois), Riley Bernas (Aurora, Illinois), Braden Bernas (Aurora, Illinois) and Neo Colter (Geneseo, Illinois) teamed up to finish in 11:02.79.

Luke Jachimiec (Aurora, Illinois) finished fifth in the 60m race in 7.17 seconds while Luke Ditswroth (Oquawka, Illinois), finished sixth in 7.20 seconds. Ditsworth took third in the 200m race in 22.97 while Bona was seventh in 23.31. Peter Soutsos (Highland Park, Illinois) finished seventh in the 60m hurdles in 9.65.

Bona finished fourth in the 400m at 52.12 with Curry in fifth at 52.21.Newton finished fourth in the 800m in a career-best time of 1:58.80. Maurice Greene (Galesburg, Illinois) posted a new career-high to finish sixth in the triple jump at 13.11m.

The men finished with 120 points, in second place behind defending champion Ripon (190).and ahead of Grinnell (113).


Women

Addi Cox (Morton, Illinois) won the weight throw at 15.80m, just shy of her season best. Maddie Boley (Beecher, Illinois) took second with a career-best 15.77m and Amanda Dybal (Apex, North Carolina) was fourth at 15.44m. Gracie Gibbons (Altona, Illinois) finished sixth with a career-best throw of 13.57m. Boley won the discus last year at the MWC Outdoor Championships and finished second in the shot put

Linsey Turner (Elburn, Illinois) won the pole vault on tiebreakers as each of the top three cleared 3.18m but failed at 3.33m. Turner took first place with Miranda Hursey (Hanna City, Illinois) taking second on the tiebreakers.

The Scots took three of the points slots in the triple jump. Carina Engst (Bloomington, Illinois) finished fifth at 10.11 with Delaney Rexroat (Monmouth, Illinois) in sixth at 9.91m and Turner in seventh at 9.75m.

Alyssa Villarreal (Galesburg, Illinois) finished fifth in the 60m race at 8.21 seconds. Lauren Anderson (Cambridge, Illinois) was seventh in the high jump at 1.46m.

The women's Distance Medley Relay of Skylar Garey (Metamora, Illinois), Lexi Shields (Viola, Illinois) , Kailey Cronin (Elgin, Illinois) and Lindsay Eaton (Danvers, Illinois) finished sixth in 15:01.13. The 4x400m relay team of Nicole Hoyer (Montgomery, Illinois), Engst, Ally Celus (Annawan, Illinois) and Garey finished sixth in 4:32.23

The women finished in second place with 115 points. Ripon repeated their championship with 161 points and Cornell was third with 110 points.

Both teams will have individuals competing at Last Chance Qualifiers next weekend.
