Men's and Women's Tennis Both Fall to St. Ambrose

Stefanova, Labicki combined for 3-0 day

MONMOUTH, Ill (09/11/2025) — The Monmouth College men's and women's tennis teams both fell at home to St. Ambrose on Wednesday. The women lost their home opener 5-2 while the men dropped their season opener 7-0. Ivana Stefanova (Streamwood, Illinois) and Natalie Labicki (Antioch, Illinois) were both double winners on the day.

WOMEN

Stefanova and Labicki won 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Kimber Calvert (Paris, Illinois) and Alayna McKinley (Rock Island) lost 6-0 at No. 2 doubles while Natalie Holst (East Moline, Illinois) and Tiah Riggs (Vincennes, Indiana) lost 6-2 at No, 3 doubles

Stefanova won at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-1 while Labicki picked up a win at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-2. Calvert fell at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0 and Holst lost at No. 4 7-5, 7-5. McKinley lost 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and Riggs lost 7-6 (9), 6-2 at No. 6.

MEN

In their first match of the season, the Scots dropped all three doubles matches 6-0. Matthew Savage (Washington, Illinois) teamed with Antonio Perez (St. George, Utah) at No. 1 while Macaden Sepich (Mackinaw, Illinois) paired with newcomer Caden De Jong (Freeport, Illinois) at No. 2. Antonio Mares (Oak Lawn, Illinois) and newcomer Ashur Carthan (Homewood, Illinois) debuted at No. 3.

Savage lost 6-1, 6-2 at No, 1 singles while Perez lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Sepich played at No. 3 with a 6-1, 6-1 loss and De Jong lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Mares fell 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 and Carthan lost his first career singles match 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Stefanova and Labicki are both 3-1 in singles on the season ... They are also 3-1 as a doubles pair ... Labicki has won three straight matches at No. 2 singles ... Labicki moved past Sara Yerks for fifth on the career combined wins list ... Stefanova is one behind Yerks ... Labicki has 24 career doubles wins, tied with Holly Trotter for fifth in MC history ... The women open MWC play at Lake Forest on Saturday afternoon ... The men play Buena Vista and Simpson in Iowa on Sunday.
