Men's Basketball Drops Season Finale at Lawrence
Metcalf finishes season leading team in points, rebounds, assists and blocks
MONMOUTH, Ill. (02/20/2022) — The Monmouth College men's basketball season came to an end on Sunday with an 81-72 loss at Lawrence University. The Scots finished the season 3-21 overall, 2-14 in Midwest Conference action.
The Scots got the first basket from Kendall Brasfield (Chicago, Illinois) but the Vikings scored the next 11 points. Jonathan Oradiegwu (Richmond, Texas) stopped the run with a 3-pointer. The lead stayed between three and nine until Yuvraj Sidhu (Coppell, Texas) cut the Lawrence lead to two with 10:24 to play in the half.
Oradiegwu's jumper got the Scots to within one with 7:36 to go. From there the Vikings went on a 10-0 run to lead 37-26. Monmouth got it back to six before Lawrence closed the half of a 10-3 run to lead 49-36.
Lawrence pushed the lead to 15 before the Scots went on a 9-0 run. Briar Greenman (Alpha, Illinois) hit a 3-pointer and Ganon Greenman (Alpha, Illinois) made a layup. Jordan Metcalf (Aledo, Illinois) scored in the lane to get the lead down to four at 55-51.
Lawrence took the lead back to 11 with 10:23 to play and still led by double digits with 6:53 to go. Ganon Greenman and Oradiegwu scored to get the lead down to six and Brasfield made a three to cut the LU lead to 71-68 with 5:03 to go. Monmouth turned it over with a chance to get to within one possession and LU quickly pushed the lead to seven. The Vikings finished of the game from there, winning 81-72.
Oradiegwu led the way with 20 points while Brasfield had 18. Oradiegwu also led the Scots with 10 rebounds as he posted a double-double. Metcalf finished with seven points, eight rebounds, two blocks and a team-high five assists.
