Men's Lacrosse Grabs First Win of Season with Late Goal

Donohoo, Casey both deliver hat tricks in road win

MONMOUTH, Ill. (03/04/2023) — The Monmouth College men's lacrosse team went on the road Saturday and picked up their first win of the season with a dramatic 8-7 win against Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Kain Donohoo (St. Charles, Illinois) scored with 56 seconds to play and Patrick Streeter (Munster, Indiana) stole a pass with seconds remaining to secure the win.

Carroll scored the first two goals before Michael Casey (Chicago, Illinois) got on the board with a man-up goal. Kai Johnson (Sun Prairie, Wisconsin) had the assist and neither team scored in the final 2:01 of the first quarter.

Donohoo tied the game 2-2 early in the second quarter on an assist from Casey. Down 3-2, the Scots got even with 1:49 to go in the half as Casey scored in a man-up situation with an assist from Carlos Hernandez (Billings, Montana).

The Scots trailed 4-3 when Gordon Kiesgen (Spring Grove, Illinois) scored an unassisted goal with 7:11 to play in the third quarter. Carroll regained the lead and Donohoo scored with 10 seconds left in the quarter on another man-up situation. However, the hosts won the faceoff and scored six seconds later to take a 6-5 lead into the fourth.

Casey tied the game again, just four seconds into the final quarter, with an assist from Kiesgen. Less than a minute later, Carroll went back on top, 7-6 and neither team scored for nearly 10 minutes. Ben LaFrenere (Schaumburg, Illinois) tied the game 7-7 with 4:29 to play with an unassisted goal. Donohoo gave Monmouth their first lead of the game with 56 seconds to play with a long-distance goal. Monmouth won the faceoff and called timeout with 40 seconds left. The Scots turned the ball over with 25 seconds to play and the ball went out of bounds with four seconds left. Carroll had one last chance but Streeter picked off a pass into the middle to end the game.

Casey and Donohoo both scored three goals to lead the Monmouth offense. Kiesgen had a goal and an assist while winning 12-of-18 faceoffs. Goalkeeper Nehemiah Declaw (Aurora, Colorado) made 15 saves for the Scots.
