Men's Soccer Falls at Augie 2-0 on Wednesday
Garibay Makes Five Saves in Loss
MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/23/2021) — The Monmouth College men's soccer team traveled to the Quad Cities on Wednesday and fell to Augustana College 2-0. The Scots are now 0-4-2 on the season and they next play in the Midwest Conference opener on Saturday.
The game was scoreless for nearly 40 minutes before the Vikings found the back of the net at 39:49. Augustana doubled the lead less than four minutes later with a backbreaking second goal just 91 seconds before the halftime whistle. They outshot the Scots 7-3 in the first half and had the only corner kick in the first 45.
Augustana pressed for a third goal as they took eight shots in the second half and had three corner kicks. Marcos Garibay (Waukegan, Illinois) stood strong in goal with five total saves, four in the second half, to keep the Scots down 2-0.
Monmouth got just one shot in the second half and put three shots on goal for the game. Andre Mykelbust (Cambridge, Wisconsin) had two of the shots on goal while James Azzi (Sydney, Australia) had the third.
