Men's Swimmers Second, Women Third in Monmouth Invite

Sellers beats sister for first in 50 Free

MONMOUTH, Ill. (11/13/2022) — The Monmouth College swimming teams hosted three fellow Midwest Conference teams on Saturday with the men finishing second and the women placing third. Grinnell College won both events while Illinois College finished second in the women's race and Knox College was fourth in both.

On the men's side, the Scots grabbed second place points in the 200 Medley Relay. David Nino (Chicago, Illinois), Ethan Main (Oneida, Illinois), Tristan Kennon (Flossmoor, Illinois) and Finn Van Dyke (Lawrence, Kansas) finished ahead of Illinois College and Knox to rack up the points.

Van Dyke finished second in the 50 Freestyle in a season-best time of 22.92. Kennon recorded a season best in the 100 Freestyle, finishing third in 50.34. Main took third in the 100 Breaststroke in 1:08.82 and in the 200 IM in 2:21.15. Nino was third in the 200 Freestyle in 2:02.61. The Scots got third place points in the 400 Freestyle relay with Brady Hild (Tremont, Illinois) and Jaydon Wilbon (Crown Point, Indiana) joining Kennon and Van Dyke.

Grinnell College won the men's event with 162 points while the Scots were second with 89. Illinois College was third with 75 and Knox was fourth with 57.

Sellers Leads the Women

For the second weekend in a row, Monmouth senior Jaidlyn Sellers (Tremont, Illinois) jumped into the pool to swim against her younger sister Jena, a freshman at Illinois College. And for the second weekend in a row, older sister finished first in the 50 Freestyle with younger sister in third. Jaidlyn put up a season-best time of 26.00 to take first place in the race with a Grinnell swimmer between the Sellers sisters.

Sellers also swam a season best in the 100 Backstroke for the Scots, picking up third place points with a time of 1:04.06. She swam on both relay teams with the 200 Medley Relay and the 400 Freestyle Relay taking third-place points. Mady Gaus (Herscher, Illinois), Lauren Johnson (Pekin, Illinois) and Lauren Fulscher (Moline, Illinois) joined Sellers on the medley relay. The freestyle relay consisted of Sellers, Fulscher, Johnson and Nicole Fitch (Marengo, Illinois).

Grinnell won the women's event with 156 points while Illinois College was second with101. Monmouth finished third with 94 points and Knox had 40.

The Scots are home again next Saturday with a 1 p.m. dual meet against MWC foe Lake Forest.
