Monmouth Cross Country has Strong Showing at 36 Team NCAA Midwest Regional
Monmouth, IL (11/17/2019) — Griff Morrill and Caroline Young had top 50 finishes as Monmouth's cross country team concluded their season at the 36-team NCAA Midwest Cross Country Regional in Winneconne, Wis., where the women placed 13th and the men 17th.
Morrill, who placed 46th in the field of more than 250 runners, covered the 8K men's course at Lake Breeze Golf Course in 25:57.6, a Monmouth honor roll time for the layout. Riley Dulin placed in the top 100 with a 26:53.5, finishing 95th. Tanner Heiple ran his final cross country race and finished just outside the top 100. The senor placed 121st with a time of 27:18.4. Another senior, Mike Bersell, led the Scots' finishing pack with a 28:13.3. He was followed across the finish line by Alex Urbina (28:34.9), C.J. Bonifer (28:48.7) and Gavin Conway (30:04.6)
Young led the women's team with a 46th-place finish in the field of nearly 260 runners, clocking a 23:30.4 on the 6K course. Mik Moore and Arika Hofmann finished as a pack, clocking a 23:47.9 and 23:57.0 to place 58th and 68th, respectively. Julia Sterr's 24:43.8 placed her just outside a top 100 finish in 110th position. Caitlyn Allen, running in her final meet as a senior, led Monmouth's final pack, clocking a 25:08.4, just ahead of Kirsten Menke (25:13.6) and Kara Fisher (25:29.6).
The Scots are now off until the indoor track season opens at home on Jan. 18.
