Monmouth's Moore Scores National Academic Honors, Cross Country Teams Earn Back-to-Back Awards

Monmouth, IL (01/30/2020) — Monmouth College's Mik Moore (Washington, Ill./Deer Creek-Mackinaw) claimed her first national cross country All-Academic honor from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) while the Fighting Scots men's and women's teams earned back-to-back All-Academic team awards from the fall season.

Moore became Monmouth's first individual honoree since Joanna Podosek took back-to-back honors in 2016 and 2017. Moore becomes the 14th Fighting Scot to earn the individual honor. In all, Monmouth has claimed the individual status 25 times since 1992. A sophomore communication and classics major, Moore is the daughter of Shannon Alleman and Adam Kaczmarek.

The 2019 fall season marks the first time in program history the men's and women's programs have earned the USTFCCCA honor back-to-back in the same year. With a team GPA of 3.5, the Fighting Scots' women earned their 12th USTFCCCA all-academic team honor in program history and are just one year shy of the program record of six straight awards set from 1993-98. Monmouth's men scored a 3.3 GPA for their first back-to-back honors.

"It's great to see both teams earn this prestigious award again," said head coach Jon Welty. "For both teams to win in back-to-back years is extremely gratifying for our program. They're an example of how you CAN compete at a high level and succeed in the classroom and in athletics. It takes hard work and dedication to excel in one venue, but to excel in both is a real tribute to the type of student-athletes we have at Monmouth."

To qualify for the individual honor, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top 25 percent of their regional meet. Teams must have a cumulative 3.1 GPA on a 4.0 scale during the most recent grading period.
