Monmouth Soccer Expected to be Player in Tight Conference Races
Monmouth, IL (08/28/2019) — If the league's coaches are correct, the Monmouth College's men's and women's soccer teams will be major players in this season's Midwest Conference race. The MWC Preseason Coaches' poll ranks the Scots' women third and the men sixth.
Just two points separate the top three women's teams in the poll. With all-conference selections Jacie Reis, the league's top scorer from a season ago, and Kara-Jade Gordon, the No. 3 scorer last year, back for their senior years - the Fighting Scots collected a pair of first-place votes and 68 points, one less first-place vote and one point behind No. 2 Grinnell. Defending champion Knox holds the edge as the favorite with five first-place votes and 70 points. Lake Forest's 54 points gives them a slight nod for fourth ahead of St. Norbert (53) and Ripon (50).
Monmouth's men are expected to battle for a top four spot, picking up 44 total points, three behind No. 5 Cornell and 10 back of fourth-ranked Grinnell. The top three are St. Norbert (80), Knox (71) and Lake Forest (66).
