As it turned out, cross country's loss was soccer's gain.

Dual sport student-athlete Ezzie Baltierra-Chavez missed Saturday's cross country meet in Iowa to take the pitch in the Scots' women's soccer game with Webster University and the decision paid big dividends. Baltierra-Chavez knocked in the game-winning goal just three minutes into overtime as the Scots stayed unbeaten on the year with a 3-2 win over the Gorlocks.

Jacie Reis had given Monmouth a 1-0 lead with her unassisted goal in the 21st minute. Webster answered with a pair of goals in the span of three minute and nursed a 2-1 lead through the 53rd minute. Devin Cross then served Kara-Jade Gordon a long ball and the senior sped past a Gorlock defender and ripped the tying goal in the upper right 90. Neither team was able to find the net for the remainder of regulation, sending the game into the extra session to set up Baltierra-Chavez's heroics.

The winning goal came after the Gorlocks' first and only shot of the OT was stoned by Quin Cutler who turned in an eight-save effort to improve to 3-0. The Scots countered as Nina Guitron fed Baltierra-Chavez for the winner.

Monmouth hosts Dubuque Tuesday in a 4:30 contest.
