Morgan, Wall Leads Scots Past Vikings Saturday

Monmouth uses big first quarter to blow out Lawrence

MONMOUTH, Ill. (01/23/2022) — The Monmouth College women's basketball team returned to action with a resounding 71-43 win over Lawrence University on Saturday. The win is the 14th straight at Glennie Gym for the Scots (7-3, 4-0) as they begin a stretch of four games in eight days and 13 games in 30 days.

Monmouth got off to a great start with 15 points in the first five minutes. Zoie Wall (Peoria, Illinois) started the game with a 3-pointer and Tarae Warner (Burlington, Iowa) scored five straight points. Josie Morgan (Washington, Illinois) made a corner 3-pointer for a 13-2 Monmouth lead. LIly Harlan (Washington, Illinois) scored after the timeout and Wall hit another shot from distance as the Scots built an 18-3 lead.

Monmouth pushed the lead to 16 on two occasions in the first quarter and led 23-9 after the period. Wall scored eight points in the first quarter while Morgan had six.

Morgan got the scoring started in the second quarter and Kaitlyn Osmulski (Peoria, Illinois) knocked down a 3-pointer. Morgan added a pair of free throws as Monmouth pushed the lead to 32-9.

Wall made a pair of free throws, as did Jordan Kintigh (Goshen, Indiana) as the Scots got into the bonus. Jadyn Mitchell (Flanagan, Illinois) made two free throws to extend the lead to 40-11 and give Monmouth an 8-0 run, Lawrence finished the half with a 3-point play and the Scots took a 40-14 lead into the locker room.

Monmouth held Lawrence to 2-of-28 (7.1%) shooting in the first half, 1-for-21 on 2-point shots. Morgan and Wall each scored 10 points in the first half.

Lawrence scored a pair of baskets early in the second half before Morgan knocked down a 3-pointer for a 46-18 lead. Kintigh's putback of her own miss and Harlan split free throws for a 50-22 Monmouth lead. Kintigh finished off a double-double with a bucket in the lane to give Monmouth a 30-point lead as she also grabbed her 14th rebound, a new career high.

Delaney Scheidenhelm (New Berlin, Illinois) made her first collegiate 3-pointer to end the third quarter and give Monmouth a 59-28 lead.

Monmouth started the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer by Morgan, a jumper from Harlan and a layup by Wall as they pushed the lead to 66-31. Lawrence went on a 9-0 run before Warner hit a 3-pointer for a 69-40 lead with 2:25 to play.

Morgan and Wall had 16 points each while Kintigh added 11. Warner got into double figures with 10 points and Kintigh grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds.
