Murray Scores Again but Scots Fall to Alma on Sunday
MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/08/2024) — The Monmouth College men's soccer team finished the Robbie Drehler Classic in Indiana with a 2-1 loss to Alma College on Sunday. The Fighting Scots (2-2) are now set for their home opener on Thursday against Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Monmouth outshot Alma 7-6 in the first half and both teams had four shots on goal. Alma struck early on Saturday with a goal in the 12th minute and they went into the half with a 2-0 lead.
Monmouth got on the board in the 66th minute. Owen Murray (Cedar City, Utah) netted his second goal of the season, unassisted. However, the Fighting Scots couldn't find the equalizer and fell 2-1.
Luis Villa (El Paso, Texas) and Alejandro Zamarripa (El Paso, Texas) split time in goal for the fourth straight game. Zamarripa made two saves and allowed two goals in the first half while Villa made three saves in the second half
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: For the second straight day, Monmouth played 21 players overall, using 10 subs ... Treyton Yi (Streamwood, Illinois) played all 90 minutes for the fourth straight game ... Koby Bodner (Lincoln, Nebraska) also played all 90 ... Murray and Kristofer Ruiz-Camarena (El Paso, Texas) both had three shots total and two shots on goal ... Monmouth next plays in the home opener at 3:30 p.m. Thursday against UW-Stevens Point.
