Oros Scores but Scots Fall at Eureka on Sunday
MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/06/2026) — The Monmouth College men's soccer team scored the first goal of the game on Sunday but ultimately lost 2-1 at Eureka.
The game was scoreless for the first 58 minutes. Monmouth's freshman goalkeeper Calvin Cotton (Hernando, Mississippi) made two saves in the half.
The Scots broke through in the 59th minute. Sophomore Paul Oros (El Paso Texas) put Monmouth on top 1-0 with his first goal of the game. It came off an assist from senior Owen Murray (Cedar City, Texas).
Eureka tied the game in the 73rd minute. With just over minutes to play, Monmouth was called for a foul in the box and the Red Devils converted the penalty kick with 5:43 to play. Monmouth's Mubaraq Basheer (Katy, Texas) put a shot on goal just 30 seconds later but Eureka's keeper made the save to secure a 2-1 win.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Cotton finished the game with three saves ... In addition to Cotton, Bryan Corona (El Paso, Texas), Alex Franco (El Paso, Texas) and Nehemiah Coleman (Portland, Oregon) played all 90 minutes ... Oros scored two goals last season, both on the road ... Murray has five career assists and 31 career points ... The points tally is tied for 14th in Monmouth history with Agustin Miranda (2015-18) ... Ryan Rodriguez-Gardea (El Paso, Texas) also had a shot on goal in the first half ... Monmouth leads the all-time series with Eureka 6-1-1 ... The Scots head to Indiana next weekend for two games in an event hosted by Wabash ... The Scots will play Alma on Friday and Muskingum on Saturday.
