Numerous Scots record season bests at IWU

by Nathan Baliva

MONMOUTH, Ill. (02/06/2022) — The Monmouth College track and field teams competed at the Bob Keck Invite on Saturday. Hosted by Illinois Wesleyan, the Keck Invite featured teams from Division I and Division III.

Jordan Peckham (Farmington, Illinois) won the 400m race in a season-best time of 1:00.02. That time is the best in the Midwest Conference this season and ranks 40th nationally as of Saturday afternoon. She took third in the 200m race with a season-best 26.15 that also leads the conference. That time is a career-best indoors for Peckham and ranks 20th nationally. Peckham also finished fourth in the 60m dash with a season-best 7.94. That time is the best in the MWC so far this season and the 48th best time nationally as of Saturday.

The other event winner for the Scots on Saturday was pole vaulter Reed Wilson (Normal, Illinois). He cleared 4.85m winning the event by six inches. Wilson has the best result in the conference this season and has won the event at all three meets in 2022.

Last week's MWC Field Performer of the Week, Kareema Lawal, had an even better throw on Saturday. Her weight throw went 15.86m, good enough for a third place finish on Saturday, the second-best throw in the MWC this season and 28th nationally.

Freshman Maddie Boley had a career-best 11.83m throw in the shot put, good for sixth place on Saturday and third in the conference. Both Lawal and Boley beat all other Division III competitors on Saturday, falling behind only Division I throwers.

Kara Fisher (Monmouth, Illinois) ran a season-best 2:29.93 in the 800m, a time bettered by just one MWC competitor before Saturday. Linsey Turner (Elburn, Illinois) matched her season high in the pole vault at 3.05m.

Alexander Brock (Lexington, Illinois) ran a 53.00 400m race on Saturday, a season-best and the fourth-fastest 400 in the MWC this season.

Caleb Toberman (Clifton, Illinois) threw a career-best 15.24m in the weight throw, finishing in third place. He edged ahead of teammate Andy Bird (Hamilton, Illinois) who also threw 15.24m, as Toberman's next longest throw was 15.02m to Bird's 14.94m. The 15.24 result is second-best in the MWC so far this season. Bird was seventh in the shot put with a season-best throw of 13.85m which ranks second in the MWC this season.

The Scots will be home this week as they host the Fighting Scot Invitational at 5 p.m. on Friday. With the January meet canceled, this will be the only home meet of the indoor season.
